Howard worked as a shipping supervisor at Crescent Wire and Cable Company for 40+ years. He saved money and purchased a large tract of land in Hamilton Township, New Jersey where he built several houses for himself and his family. He also raised chickens and several garden crops, such as potatoes, corn, tomatoes, beans etc. which Harriet canned.
